How Logan Brae Collection Was Born
Logan Brae Collection didn’t start as a “brand”.
It started as me chasing a feeling, over and over again. That moment when you walk into a place and can see what it could be, not what it is. Then comes the fun part: bringing it to life.
Here’s the path that got us here.
The starting line: the Machinery Shed
The Machinery Shed was the beginning.
Back then I was a photographer in Sydney, travelling back and forth, trying to juggle everything. It wasn’t sustainable. I needed a different way to work and live, something that fit around the life we actually had.
We had this old machinery shed on the orchard, and I couldn’t stop thinking about what it could become. Not just “accommodation”. A proper stay. A place with a point of view. Somewhere that felt like the plan.
That project taught me everything. Guest experience, flow, comfort, atmosphere, and the small details that make a place feel effortless.
The big yes: Mt Kanimbla
Then came Mt Kanimbla.
It was dated, but stunning. One of those once in a lifetime properties where the vision hits you straight away. We transformed that property over about 2.5 years. Two cabins plus the big lodge. It was massive. Emotional. Expensive. Brilliant.
And honestly, I didn’t want to let it go.
But there’s only so much debt you can carry at one time before it starts getting tight around the collar. Ours wasn’t feeling sustainable. So the sale had to happen. It freed up the debt and gave us the ability to keep moving forward.
And I was so lucky with who it went to. The new custodians were a dream, and the transition was genuinely joyful.
The “this one’s for us” project: Tassie
Somewhere in the middle of all of that, we found a little run-down shack in Freycinet National Park.
That place is very special to Sam. He grew up going there, his mum had a shack there, and now his sisters are both in the same little bay. It felt right.
That one wasn’t a business plan. It was a love reno. A family base. Our Tassie landing spot. Maybe we sell it one day, but for now it’s ours.
The long dream: Hyams Beach
Hyams has been on our wish list for about ten years.
We tried to buy there five years ago and failed. So we kept going back, staying in Airbnbs, getting our hit of the clearest water you’ve ever seen, and returning to the mountains refreshed.
Then the timing finally lined up after the Kanimbla sale, and Hyams became real.
Now we’re creating our little coastal sanctuary. A couple’s retreat. Stylish, romantic, photo worthy, and calm. A place that feels like an instant exhale.
The one I can’t quit: Byron Bay
And yes, Byron Bay is still on the wish list.
I know. I know. A lot of you hate it. But I’ve always loved it. Always have.
Buy me a place at Belongil and stick a fork in me, I’m done.
So, what is Logan Brae Collection?
It’s the home for all of it.
The stays we’ve created. The renovations we’ve brought to life. The behind the scenes. The decision making. The pieces and places that inspire me. The hosting experience we’ve learnt the hard way.
I want it to be a platform for inspiration and motivation. A place where similar minds come together. People who get why details matter. People who also believe a stay should feel like the plan.
Now it finally has a name. And a home.
Logan Brae Collection.
