Gaia Changed My Life (No, Really). My Honest 5 Night Review
I’m just going to say it. Gaia might have changed my life.
After a bloody horrible year, I didn’t feel “tired”. I felt wrong. Like my body was running on the wrong software and no one could tell me why.
My kids were in preschool, and I swear they brought home a new germ every three days. Covid. Influenza. Endless daycare lurgy. I was constantly sick, trying to keep a business going, trying to be a decent mum, and my immune system was absolutely cooked.
My wonderful naturopath did a bit of digging and it turns out the stress mixed with the high viral load triggered an autoimmune response and set off Hashimoto’s in my system. It explained the “why”, but I still didn’t feel like me.
So that January, I booked myself five nights at Gaia.
It was a financial stretch; I’m not going to pretend it wasn’t. But it was also on my vision board, and everything on there comes true… so who was I to deny myself?
Quick verdict (for the skimmers)
Gaia is the most cared for, beautifully designed wellness stays I’ve ever done. It’s expensive, yes, but for me it became a yearly reset I don’t negotiate on. If you’re burnt out, run down, or craving quiet, it’s worth seriously considering.
Best for: burnout, nervous system reset, solo time, health focused luxury
The vibe: rainforest cocoon, calm, intentional, deeply looked after
How long: minimum 3 nights, sweet spot 5
Would I go back: I booked again on checkout
The vibe: my nervous system exhaled
From the moment I stepped onto the property, I felt like I’d been wrapped in a cocoon. Gaia has this feeling of serenity and care that I’ve never experienced anywhere else.
It’s not just “nice”. It’s intentional.
Every area, every nook, every little pathway feels thought out. Healing stones. Gardens to die for. That quiet, calm energy where you can feel your shoulders drop without even trying.
And yes, as someone who obsesses over design and guest experience for a living, I noticed everything. In the best way.
The room: Olivia Newton-John’s (I got lucky!)
So… I stayed in Olivia Newton-John’s room. Yes. And when I found out, the whole stay felt even more special. She just seemed like such a beautiful human, and I loved the idea that the room carried a little of her calm, good energy.
It’s not common knowledge when you first arrive, but you get the inside info a couple of days in once you start chatting to people. Gaia has that vibe where strangers become friends and suddenly you’ve been told the best room, the best treatment, and what time the cockatoos show up.
The room itself was honestly magic. So comfortable. I had my own little plunge pool, and the gardens all around me were lush and private, so it felt tucked away from the world.
It was the kind of room you walk into and immediately think:
Ok. I can actually breathe here.
The food: healthy, but genuinely five stars
The food was insane. Like… nourishing and healthy, but also genuinely a five-star dining experience.
I never requested changes or tweaks because why would you when it’s perfect the way it is? I actually think I might have been the only person who just said: “Bring it out as it is.”
Everything was thoughtful and beautifully balanced. Delicate flavours, stunning presentation, and meals that left me feeling nourished and steady, not heavy. Not “sad health food”. More like you’re being looked after by someone who really knows what they’re doing.
The staff: you leave feeling like mates
The staff… oh my gosh.
By the end you honestly feel like friends. It’s not fake. It’s not scripted. It’s warm and human and kind, and it makes you realise how much you’ve been powering through without being properly looked after.
I can’t wait to see them again.
And yes, I booked my next birthday trip the day I left.
The treatments: my “try everything” era
This was my chance to try all the things I’d heard people talk about for years… but never had time to properly explore.
Breathwork for the first time. Massages. Chinese medicine. Tarot. Human design. All of it.
And their spa menu is honestly wild in the best way. You can do so much, and it feels like a pick your own healing adventure. You can go deep, or you can keep it simple and just rest. Either way, you’re supported.
I walked away feeling like a new version of myself.
Who Gaia is perfect for (and who it’s not)
Perfect for you if:
you’re burnt out, run down, or feel like you’ve been in survival mode
you want quiet, space, and a proper reset
you love design, detail, and places that feel considered
you need time where nothing is required of you except showing up
Maybe not for you if:
you want a busy, social, party vibe (it’s calm and restorative)
you’re only doing one night and expecting miracles
you hate quiet (no judgement, just not the place)
The money bit: is it expensive?
Yes. There’s no sugar coating it.
And with the renovations they’ve got planned, I’d say the price is only going to go up.
But was it worth it?
Beyond any doubt.
For me, it became a non-negotiable. My yearly full stop. My reset. The start to the year that I genuinely don’t want to do without.
And going headfirst into perimenopause, it was the pause and the space I needed to just stop and listen to what my body was doing. Not push through it. Not ignore it. Not “deal with it later”.
Just… listen.
My tips if you’re thinking about going
Minimum 3 nights to get the real benefit (in my opinion).
5 nights felt perfect if you can stretch it.
It’s a stretch, but you can pay it off throughout the year in smaller amounts, so it feels manageable.
Don’t overthink the food. Let them do their thing.
Book the treatments you’re curious about. This is the place to try the stuff you keep hearing about.
And the biggest tip: if you’re reading this thinking “should I?”… you probably should.
